Setting goals, achieving goals – That’s how it works

Purpose to work is important in all circumstances, because the goal is to drive extraordinary achievements, motivate and get the bites needed to solve various things. Of course, one’s career is no exception, but how do you manage not only to set goals, but also to achieve them? We give you tips on how to apply your (professional) desires and achieve what you really want for your career and life.

1. Why are goals important?

Big question about everything: what goals do you need? After all, you might also just see what’s in store for you and capture opportunities, right? However, it is more effective to actively take care of your career. Many can only be achieved if you are looking for a way and making plans to get to your destination. Imagine you are in the forest. Without a clear project, you will most likely run around and only live in the forest – but lose the beautiful scenery behind it. However, if you think of getting out of the forest, you will be rewarded – even if you have to go longer. Your career is similar: if you pursue certain goals, you are more likely to achieve them than if you only work for yourself, without knowing where he is leading you. Do you want to be promoted? Very well, you have taken the first step and set goals.

You are more likely to be on the road to work or the desired position if you know what you are doing. This way you can handle even smaller, smaller setbacks. It’s also easier to find ways to achieve your goals if you have a clear starting and ending point. Looking back, you can see exactly which strategy has brought you closer to your goals and what you have successfully implemented, but which may be less effective. This is also a valuable insight to achieving the next goal.

2. How to Find the Right Purpose

To achieve your goals, first of all the important thing is that you set goals . But what does that mean? So much in advance: Achieving goals creates happiness, at the same time can make concrete achievements. This encourages us to stay on the ball and set new bigger goals. At best, you have a higher level goal that divides you into many small milestones. At first, your goals seem to be still large and impossible to achieve. But once you realize that you can achieve small steps and overcome obstacles, you will work on your project with renewed motivation. Having a big goal is important, because just having a small goal makes you start with a good start, but in the long run it can also make you stop trying and lose your taste. Let’s stick with the example of transportation. This can be a stage in your journey to becoming the CEO of your company. Or think bigger: Do you want to start your own business?

That is why the motto was “a big dream – hard work” so that you have big dreams and try to make it happen. However, you must always ensure that your wishes are fulfilled. It only makes you disappointed if you have an unrealistic goal. For example, if you want to be a department head in your company next year, you need to get used to all aspects of your previous position. Don’t just think about the positive side, but also the negative side. Are you ready to work more and work late? Do you want to take (more) responsibility, stand tall for your team and conduct employee assessments? Do you dare to carry out the task demanded by this position? Do you have the qualifications and experience to do your work? Think about how your life will change. Is this change useful for you? Show your strengths and weaknesses – and be honest with them. Only when you truly believe that you have the right career goals in your mind can you start working for it.

What that means to you:

  1. Find great goals that are realistic
  2. Divide into a small milestone.
  3. And most importantly, reward yourself when you reach a milestone.

3. SMART principle for “good” purposes

In the area of project management, “smart principles” are applied to goals. This allows clearly defined and defined goals. SMART stands for:

  • S strange
  • M edible
  • A n
  • R ealistic
  • ] T Minutes

Each target must be SMART, so meet all five conditions. For example: “I will be the head of the department next year!” The goal is clearly defined (S), clearly measurable (M), desirable for you (A), it is in the area of possibility that you are Head of Department (R) – So you should not complete your training – and you have fixed time (T).

To verify your achievements, you must write down your destination . Thus, he is held accountable. In addition, you are forced to formulate what you imagine.

When you’re done, think about how to get there, how to get to where you want to be. It will be very helpful if you talk to colleagues, your family and friends, or even your supervisor, to get ideas and ideas from the outside, how to achieve your goals. If there are new possibilities, expand the plan. “I will be the head of the department next year and get a salary of 15% more”. What is your purpose?

4. What will happen in the future? Open to new things.

A few years ago, it was clear that you would practice the same profession throughout your life. At that time, employees often worked in the same company for 20, 30, or 40 years. It’s different today. If you don’t like your employer, there are enough alternatives to offer. If you want to change your profession completely, that’s also possible. Career is rarely direct. These days, you can read about doctors who then work in the craft profession, optics who turn to jewelry designs, or engineers who work as teachers. Of course, you don’t have to be a librarian for a surgeon – but keep in mind that you can do that. It is important that you do not force yourself into a rigid corset and stay in it, if you prefer to do something else.

Despite an unpredictable economic situation, you can plan your career – at least to some extent. That is, in the sense that you can achieve your goals, even if the way there might not work as you imagine. Sometimes unexpected changes are even good for your career. If your company goes bankrupt, you can feel sad and upset about losing your great co-worker and a safe position. Or you see it as an opportunity to prove yourself in a new company. Be open as you can when it comes to your work. Only in this way can you take advantage of the opportunities offered to you. You cannot plan your career to the smallest detail. But you can plan what you want to achieve eventually – and then work actively.

5. Three biggest mistakes in setting goals

If you set goals, make sure that you don’t get this error:

1. Wrong Reason:
Think about why you want to achieve a goal. Do you do it yourself? For your parents? Better in front of your partner? Look in the mirror and ask yourself what you really want. In many cases, there is no point in arranging your own career according to the wishes of others.

2. No Foresight:
What happens when you reach your destination? Do you still have enough time for your family? Before you set goals that can make you unhappy, think hard. How will your life change after reaching your goal? If this change causes too many negative consequences for you, the goal may not be what you want.

3. Too many goals:
You want to be promoted and elected to the workplace council, more committed to the environment and politics, running a marathon and spending more time with your friends and family? That might be a bit outrageous. Remember to be realistic and not burdened. The more goals you set, the less time you have for each project. Don’t jam. If not, you end up in danger of not reaching any goal. And that can be frustrating. If you have successfully completed one thing, you can still do another.

6. The goal is not achieved? Dealing with Failure

Maybe not all of your plans will succeed. There will be setbacks that you are not prepared for and that you might give up in your planning. It is a fact that you must be friends right from the start. Of course that is very unfortunate, but remember that failure to live is hers. The important thing is that you don’t give up after that. That you decide to try again or look for another destination that is more feasible. If you are not included in the promotion, there will be no point for you to stab your head in the sand. Instead, ask why you are not considered for that position and try to improve it so that you can reach your destination next time. Or you realize that in other companies, you are more likely to enter the position you want. If you realize that you can’t do something because you don’t have the skills to do it, ask someone who has it, talk to your boss about further education, or bring it to yourself, if possible. And if you finally reach your goal, then all the stumbling blocks that block your path will no longer be a problem.
